Primary Purpose:

The Senior Mix Technician is the head of that department and manages the other mix technicians, sound assistants and all dub stages. The successful applicant will also work as a Mix Technician on our highest profile productions but also work to support their team in delivering an exceptional client experience on other productions. This role is also responsible for nurturing the talent within their team, providing further training and guidance and ensuring a seamless workflow for all productions.

We are looking for an already established Senior Mix Technician or Sound Studio Manager or a very established and experienced mix technician who is ready to take a step up and manage a team. The applicant for this role should have an expert level of knowledge of legacy and modern audio formats and recording equipment and strong experience of audio software, hardware, workflows, configuration and deliverables.

The ability to stay calm under pressure and to prioritise workloads is paramount for this position. In addition, a clear passion for sound, a demonstrable working experience and exposure to high profile content and clients of at a similar facility, is absolutely essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sharing best practices related to sound creation, distribution, and high-level playback requirements.

  • Ensuring the dub stages are correctly configured prior to the start of every production.

  • The ability to explain complicated technical concepts in clear concise everyday language as well as get deeply technical and communicate with engineers and product managers.

  • Advanced or expert user knowledge of all audio hardware and software

  • Manage the day-to-day requirements of the dub stages.

  • Competently operate the equipment in the sound studio and backroom.

  • Mix using a DFC mixing desk and AVID S6.

  • Monitor technical quality control with extreme attention to detail.

  • Produce any daily report sheets when required.

  • Produce weekly overtime sheets for all team members for work completed in the studio.

  • Liaise with operational, managerial and financial staff to ensure the seamless delivery of services.

  • Be a first point of contact for clients and visitors in any dealings they may have with Twickenham Studios.

  • Provide exceptional client and staff satisfaction when carrying out tasks.

  • To answer or redirect general queries.

  • Adhere to the Health and Safety policy.

  • To assist in other departments as and when necessary.

  • Ad hoc tasks as required to ensure the smooth running of Twickenham Studios.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Deep knowledge of all analogue and digital technology, standards, formats and processes

  • Professional Recording Studio/dub stage experience

  • Deep knowledge of acoustics principles, room acoustics, loudspeaker design and performance, audio signal processing, and room equalization.

  • Expert-level knowledge of AVID Pro-Tools and related control surfaces.

  • Experience with Dolby Atmos, 7.1, 5.1 mix formats and audio deliverables.

  • Deep Production experience sound post-production. 5+ years or more.

  • Ability to maintain complete confidentiality on all content related work.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in intense and time-constrained environments.

  • Experience in training people on new software and/or hardware.

  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to create an immediate rapport with a range of contacts

  • Ability to understand client needs and priorities by questioning in a diplomatic manner

  • Ability to prioritise with good organisational skills

  • Excellent knowledge of production and post-production techniques, particularly sound.

  • Numerate with good basic level maths, able to remain accurate under stress

  • Computer Literate and experienced using computer packages

  • To be sensitive to the differing needs of clients and staff

  • Persistence and Determination

  • To be a team builder and work efficiently as part of a team

  • Ability to accept constructive criticism

  • Capacity to remain calm and effective in difficult situations

  • Flexible and adaptable to approach to ensure clients’ needs are met.

  • Able to work within a shift pattern, which covers evenings.

  • Willingness to work late nights or weekends as per client requirements.
