The launch of the Twickenham Film Studios Rebrand. A Home For Filmmakers.

With a heritage of over 100 years, TFS is one of the world’s leading studios, operated by TIME + SPACE Studios’. Offering bespoke production and post production services across Features, TV Series, Documentaries, Music Videos and Commercials. Twickenham Film Studios has a multi award-winning and much-loved creative campus featuring state of the art services and facilities across Studios, Picture, Sound, Workspace and Social.

The senior team lead by Managing Partners Piers Read, Jeremy Rainbird and Managing Director Cara Sheppard wanted to signal a new era for the business by redesigning the brand in line with the site’s £15m redevelopment works. The full rebrand has been an opportunity to create TFS as a creative Home For Filmmakers. A home for content creators. A home for innovators and technologically forward thinkers. A place to collaborate in the forthcoming creative workspaces. A place to enjoy the bar, cafe and events hub. It will also soon be a place to watch the classics through to new film releases in the forthcoming new cinema which will be created as part of the redevelopment works.

A multi award-winning and much-loved creative environment, TFS is a technical innovation hub for creators, with facilities across – studios, picture and sound. Our creatives work collaboratively with their clients to bring storytelling to life. With a multi winning post production and production team who bring to life every script to screen. In Sound re-recording mixers, sound editors and foley artists. In Picture colourists, online editors and VFX artists. Our highly experienced Film and TV Studios team as well as a workspace membership and social client services team.

Working closely with Creative Director & Founder Matt Burke, from independent boutique branding and design agency, Almighty, web builders Fresh Pies and signage creators EndPoint – the rebrand created has brought a contemporary, iconic, yet less is more approach to the design of the studios. Ensuring the 100 year heritage is reflected but the innovative, future focus of the studios is represented by a new master brand logo. A design which cleverly plays on a filmic viewfinder – giving a view into the colourful world of their clients work. In addition a set of five usable icons represent all the studios capabilities (Studios, Picture, Sound, Workspace, Social) across digital, brand assets and on site signage. The monochromatic design runs across new TFS branding, website, digital assets, social channels, merchandise and collateral.

As part of the ongoing redevelopment works of the studios campus, the rebrand now runs across the site with all new signage, a brand new look entrance and reception area.

Matt Burke of Design Agency Almighty comments: “We were privileged to be invited to work on the rebrand of such an iconic location. We met the TFS team to understand their ambitions and were lucky enough to be able to spend time on site as well. This helped give us a real feel for the place and its history. We were briefed to evolve the brand whilst retaining their 100 year heritage so we wanted to ensure their state of the art facilities, creativity and world-class content was the main focus of the new identity. This is where the viewfinder idea came from. A suite of supporting icons for key facilities were also created which interact with digital and physical areas of the campus. A lot of the movies made at TFS are timeless classics so it was a conscious decision to keep the identity predominantly monochromatic to reflect this. There’s confidence in its simplicity. We hope the new identity will support and elevate the brand for many more years to come”.

A newly fully enhanced Twickenham Film Studios Sound Theatre 2 has also been unveiled with Sound Theatre 1 to follow – both include an extensive renovation and technical upgrade as part of the site redevelopment works making them the most state of the art, technically advanced Sound Mixing Theatres in the UK. The exciting changes for both TFS Theatre 2 and Theatre 1 include: extensive structural changes to the design and layout, with Theatre 2 remodelled to improve its acoustics and eye-lines to the screen. They have created a very beautiful, modern, comfortable, dark look interior design – with a palette of black and wood. The new Sound Theatres feature comfortable new sofas, bespoke desks, sound artist seating and editor areas. They are also upgrading the surrounding areas to our Sound Theatres to showcase the new TFS rebrand elements. The improved tech install includes: Neve DFC 3D consoles with integrated Avid S6 M40s in both rooms, plus the addition of brand new pro-tools rigs. The addition of Dolby Atmos means that both theatres now offer immersive audio. IMAX 12.0 has also been installed in Sound Theatre 2. The works have been carried out alongside Dolby, Avid, Christie, Jigsaw24, Munro and Soundz Fishy (formally Frozen Fish Design).

Twickenham Film Studios Managing Director Cara Sheppard says: “As part of the site works across the infamous TFS campus in St.Margarets, the studios are undergoing a complete redesign and redevelopment. A time to embrace our creative community, innovation and technology – building on over a century of film heritage. The important changes and expansion of the studios means we are perfectly placed to welcome even more productions, filmmakers, and creators who will call the new campus “home”. The new rebrand we are so proud to unveil runs across all our digital, and physical platforms goes hand in hand with all the physical enhancement of the campus we are going through. We are investing into our infrastructure, our cutting edge facilities, our talent, our brand ethos and values, the importance of advanced technology and innovation as well as our studios sustainability, diversity and inclusion practices. The new brand designs not only talk to the heritage of the business but our relevance in the next chapter. We look forward to welcoming a range of productions as the content revolution goes from strength to strength.”

TFS Consultant Marketing PR & Brand Director Victoria Poole adds: “Coming on board 6 months ago to lead the Marketing rebrand and being able to proudly unveil today our new TFS positioning across all digital, physical, merch, assets, site and beyond is such a proud moment. The team at Twickenham Film Studios are a hugely talented family and resetting the future look of the business has been a great challenge. I couldn’t be any happier with what we have brought to life together. There are no studios out there offering the core capabilities, site experience, vision and talent that TFS does. The new brand world we have created with Almighty, Fresh Pies and EndPoint truly reflects that. This rebrand also showcases the real investment the business is making into the next era, so as to support the healthy future of the UK Film and TV industry”.

Twickenham Film Studios reputation has been based on creating such heritage work as The Italian Job, Zulu, Alfie, The Pink Panther Strikes Again, Iron Lady and War Horse through to such Oscar wins for sound mixing on Bohemian Rhapsody and a Bafta for mixing on Sam Mendez’s World War One drama 1917. Other productions that have used the production and post-production facilities include: Baby Driver, Netflix’s The Witcher, ITV’s Belgravia, ITV’s The Durrell’s and more recently such highlights as News Of The World for which TFS Re-recording Mixer Will Miller was Oscar nominated for Best Sound, The Hustle, The Crown, I Care A Lot, The Duchess, Enola Holmes and The One & Only Ivan to name a few.

Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (The Queen’s Gambit) to star as Brian Epstein in “Midas Man”

  • DIRECTED BY INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED FILMMAKER JONAS ÅKERLUND

  • STUDIOPOW and TREVOR BEATTIE FILMS TO PRODUCE

StudioPOW and Trevor Beattie Films today announce that The Queen’s Gambit break-out star Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (Wolf Hall, Medici) will play the lead role of Brian Epstein in MIDAS MAN, the first feature film to tell the extraordinary true story of the visionary music manager and impresario.

MIDAS MAN will be directed by internationally acclaimed filmmaker JONAS ÅKERLUND (Polar, Lords of Chaos), and multiple-Grammy winning music director (PAUL MCCARTNEY, MADONNA, BEYONCE, LADY GAGA, U2, THE ROLLING STONES and OZZY OSBOURNE and many others). Steeped both in music and film culture, Åkerlund is uniquely placed to bring this outstanding and human story to life. Åkerlund will also have creative input on the film’s iconic soundtrack.

Charting Brian Epstein’s (AKA Eppy) role in the cultural revolution and creative explosion of the 1960s, the film will highlight his unparalleled yet often unheralded influence on pop music, and its colossal impact worldwide.

Jacob Fortune-Lloyd dazzled international audiences with his portrayal of chess prodigy-turned-journalist, Townes, starring alongside Anya Taylor-Joy in Netflix’s worldwide hit series The Queen’s Gambit. The rising British actor also starred in the BBC’s storied adaptation of Wolf Hall and Capri Award-winning historical drama series Medici. His film credits include Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker and Agatha Christie adaptation Crooked House alongside Gillian Anderson and Glenn Close. Fortune-Lloyd has also performed on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company. The Oxford educated actor trained at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

BRIAN EPSTEIN – Star Maker Extraordinaire – took the music industry by storm at the tender age of 25. What followed was a dazzling, tumultuous and ultimately tragically short career which saw him discover and guide to stratospheric fame a series of acts, from THE BEATLES and GERRY AND THE PACEMAKERS to BILLY J KRAMER and CILLA BLACK. He opened his own theatre in order to promote and launch the likes of JIMI HENDRIX, THE WHO, CREAM and PINK FLOYD many of whom performed on the same bill

MIDAS MAN is an emotional, witty, honest portrait of the joy of success conflicted with inner personal heartache and unfulfilled desire. This is the first big-screen telling of the story of the man from Liverpool with the Midas touch, whose influence on popular music and culture resounds to this day.

Jonas Åkerlund said: “It is a tall order to fill Brian’s shoes, and Jacob is the perfect performer. He is charismatic and dark at the same time, balancing that emotional range where you’re not sure if you’re in love with him or terribly empathetic with the inner turmoil of his character. No one could bring Brian to life better.”

Jacob Fortune-Lloyd said: “It’s a huge privilege to play Brian Epstein, a man who made such an important and lasting cultural impact, but who struggled to find a secure place in a world he helped to shape. He was a fascinating person with great talent, ambition, and courage, and I’m so honoured to be given the opportunity to represent him. Jonas is the perfect person to bring this story to life, his work is visually stunning, visceral, and bold. I can’t wait to start working together.”

MIDAS MAN is produced by KEVIN PROCTOR and PERRY TREVERS at StudioPOW (Funny Cow, Cordelia) and TREVOR BEATTIE and JEREMY CHATTERTON at TREVOR BEATTIE FILMS (Moon, Attacking The Devil, Nureyev, Spitfire) and PETER DUNNE and MARK BORKOWSKI are executive producers. TWICKENHAM STUDIOS Chairman and co-owner SUNNY VOHRA and Managing Partner JEREMY RAINBIRD will also serve as executive producers. MIDAS MAN is being produced in association with ER DONG PICTURES who will also be distributing the film in Greater China.

StudioPOW’s Perry Trevers stated: “Brian Epstein was a man of immense charm; good looking, he was adored by men and women equally. Despite heavy workloads, high expectations and constant pressure, his staff that worked along side him showed a loyalty and a love for Brian that endures to this day. Jacob Fortune-Lloyd is one of those rare actors who has both great acting ability and film star quality. He has that difficult to define charisma, that simply leaps off the screen. Those qualities will be vital in portraying the remarkable Brian Epstein.”

Trevor Beattie said: ‘We’ve found our Eppy and I couldn’t be happier. Jacob is a class act. A next generation star. He has the intellect, charm and the acting chops to bring Brian Epstein back to life and place him where he always wanted to be: on the movie screen. And I think Eppy would approve of being portrayed by such a dashing dapper chap.”

This original screenplay is based on a screen story by Brigit Grant and written by JONATHAN WAKEHAM (Misanthrope). The casting director is DAN HUBBARD CDG CSA (Bourne Ultimatum, Wrath of Man, Captain Phillips, Damned United).

Worldwide sales for MIDAS MAN will be managed by MISTER SMITH ENTERTAINMENT whose founder DAVID GARRETT will spearhead the global sales campaign.

Jacob Fortune-Lloyd is represented worldwide by Alex Irwin at Markham Froggatt & Irwin.

Jonathan Wakeham is represented by Humphrey Elles-Hill at Independent Talent.

MIDAS MAN will be filming at Twickenham Studios and on location in London, Liverpool and the US.
